Thou Shalt Not xstitch pattern by neomeruru Thou Shalt Not xstitch pattern by neomeruru
A cross-stitch pattern I whipped up to work on over my long weekend. Please feel free to download it, modify it for your own projects, and stitch it to your heart's content.

Words adapted from 'Thou Shalt Always Kill' by dan le sac Vs. Scroobius Pip ([link]), a hip-hip/electronic duo. The original line is 'thou shalt not make repetitive, generic music', but I have adapted it to make it my personal motto for my own artistic endeavors.

Whenever I am daunted by a project that I think is outside of my skill level, I think this motto to myself. It helps remind me that we only improve by constantly testing ourselves with new, exciting, and difficult projects.

I love this, and I love the pseudo Arabic calligraphy. Where did you find that?

Oh, I love this! I'm absolutely stealing the technique to make the interesting lettering as will make stitching samplers so much more interesting. How big did the finished piece end up?

It's about the size of a piece of legal paper, on 14ct Aida! And definitely make your own fonts, the results are pretty amazing. Glad I could help.

I like it! I love the pattern, where do you go to make these awesome patterns? I have several quotes that I'd like to cross-stitch! XD

I make them in Photoshop by typing out the font I like and using a pixellating filter to make 10x10pm blocks, then lay a 10px grid overtop. Sometimes I need to play with the Threshold to remove some of the colour. Then, most of the work is cleaning up the pattern by filling the grid with colour in such a way as it approximates the shape of the font I chose.

It takes a bit of effort, but it's nice and meditative. I might make a few samplers with some of the nicer fonts I find.

I think I'm going to have to take this motto to heart. When you see the frogs come up at some point then you'll know why.
